Energy
Energy isn’t in the game yet. When it arrives, everything that plugs in will cost money to run: air pumps, water pumps, UV clarifiers and heaters. These are the placeholder numbers we’re balancing with.
What’s in the game now
Nothing costs energy yet. Air stones, filter pumps and UV run free. The developer debug panel on each fish already works out what each pond would use, so the numbers can be balanced before energy is switched on.
What uses energy
Planned Power in watts, energy in kWh, priced at a placeholder ¥ a kWh.
A farm’s day
Planned Rough daily use for some typical ponds:
Heating dwarfs everything else in winter. Covering a heated pond is the single biggest saving, and a heat pump costs about a third as much to run as an electric heater.
How it’s meant to feel
- Energy should make you think about kit you’d otherwise just buy: is the fourth air stone worth its running cost, or would a bigger pond do the job?
- It shouldn’t make you rich or broke. Running a well-equipped pond should cost about what feeding it does.
- Heating is the big decision of the mid game: affordable, but a real choice.
